"Love Couch"

This is what my boys call the Loveseat. Doesn't sound nearly as funny, until your 6 year old says it out loud. Love Couch! Haha!!

Post K.C.

Well..... Jake survived another surgery. Like any of us are surprised...He had a tumor removed from his left leg. It was located on the side of his calf.
We drove up to K.C. on Monday afternoon, dropped the boys off at some friends, for a very extended play date, then Jake and I crashed at my brother's house. We (I) literally crashed!! I laid down, and was out for the count before 10pm. Jake had instructions to not eat after midnight, so he stayed up long enough to eat one last meal, and then he may have not slept as well as I did.... But, he got some sleep.
We were told to check in around 11am on Tuesday, so we had a little time to run errands and spend a gift card I'd gotten for Christmas. We checked in, and he wasn't prepped for surgery until 1pm. I had one hungry Jake on my hands.... or by this time, the nurses did. The surgery started around 1:45 and he got out at 3:15. Dr. Templeton (our Orthopedic surgeon) came to update me. Said he did great, and the tumor was so big, she understands why it was getting to become so painful. It was about 4 inches long and approximately 1.5 inches in diameter. Yikes!! Jake's skinny leg, just got skinnier! Hehe! He was in recovery for over an hour and a half before I got to go see him. He did great! He was nauseous, but never got sick. We weren't dismissed until about 5:30pm, then it was some fast food, pick up boys, and back to the MAC.
Jake is doing so good. He has even ditched the crutches already. The pain with walking is better than dragging around the crutches. Once he got food in his system, the nausea went away. The pain killers and antibiotics are keeping him from sleeping, which is no bueno, but he is in great spirits.
Another surgery down, and I'm so happy it went so smoothly!

Our Christmas

When we bought this old house, one of our first concerns was "where are we going to put the tree, or the stockings, and how is Santa going to make it in our house?"
All very serious concerns!!
Well, we knew Santa would use his magic to enter through our front door.
So, here we are leaving cookies and carrots by the front door before bed.
Riley didn't think Santa needed too many cookies, since he'd be eating at every one's house.
Then he counted out 9 carrots.... one for each reindeer, including Rudolph.
The stockings were hung with care on the stairway, and filled with all the Spy Gear any little boy would ever need, by morning.
My kids are so funny... they didn't think they were allowed to touch their toys until they woke us up.
And to wake us up.... Reece crept in our room and put his face 1 inch from
Jake's face.
Merry Christmas!!
Jake about had a heart attack!!
Amazingly, we slept until 7 in our house!
It's present time!!!
Riley's favorite. Star Wars video game.
Fishing pole.
Reece got a tackle box, disguised as a decorative snowman.
We are officially set to become fishermen now.

Riley is growing like a weed!!
So new pajamas were in order and nothing like getting the 5th
"Diary of a Wimpy Kid" book.
I got a Wii card to be able to download the ORIGINAL "Super Mario Bros."
Riley LoVeS the "old fashioned" game!
Dad and Reece enjoying a fun game of Hedbanz.
PS... Reece is a cheater!! Also, this game is more fun if you know how to read.... need to work on that with Reece.
Let's see, Reece also got pajamas, Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie, Harry Potter Wii.
Jake and I, both got each other a new pair of brown boots. His are for work and mine are for fun and I love them.
We had a great Christmas here, then we headed to Wichita to have Christmas at my parent's, but left the camera behind. Boo!

UgLy Sweater

The last day of school, the staff had an ugly sweater contest.
I had an ugly sweater, compliments of my neighbor, Casey.
AND, although I would personally NEVER wear such a thing outside my house, outside of ugly sweater day, I had several teachers and 5th graders actually really like my sweater.
Therefore.... I did NOT win the prize.
I'll get over it.... hehe!

December Happenings....

Funny how you look at your camera, and realize that December has flown by just as quickly as the previous couple of months.
Here's what I've neglected to share....
~~~~
Reece had his birthday.
He got the "EXACT" Nerf gun that he had been wanting, followed by some Legos.
I really dislike Nerf stuff, and I really dislike finding Nerf darts EVERYWHERE!
Aunt Joanna made Reece some awesome "6" cookies for him to take to school.
Excited!!
Reece requested brownies, instead of cake.
Mommy's weakness!!
Happy Birthday to YOU!Make a wish!
Birthdays are exhausting.....
....and give big brothers a chance to play with the new toys.
~~~~
Oh, and I posted the story about the pretzel DrAmA,
but here are some pictures of my handsome helpers!

Well.... handsome helpers, who make silly faces!

Oh The Trouble I Go Through...

I've had quite the week. And the trouble I've run into (mostly to be blamed on the Hubby) has been dramatic! Wait! Maybe I'm just being the dramatic one....

First:
The boys and I spent 2.5 hours on Monday, making our yummy chocolate/caramel covered pretzel sticks. I packaged the ones I had intended on giving away, the boys and I enjoyed one a piece, and I put the remaining in a couple sealed Tupperware containers. When Jake got home, I told him which ones he could eat from. That was that.
The next day after school, Reece asked for a pretzel. I searched the kitchen up and down, and there were no pretzels! NONE!! I texted Jake..... he had taken them to work. He works with a ton of people, and of course none were left. I was FuRiOuS!! I let him know that I didn't slave away in the kitchen for us to not be able to enjoy any of the chocolaty and caramely goodness! Boy did he feel badly! He was so sure when I told him which ones he could eat, it meant these are the ones he could have! He asked what he could do, and I told him to make more so his son could enjoy them. So.... he stopped by the store on the way home and picked up ingredients to make us more. Problem solved. We now have our own pretzels that we can eat ourselves.

Second:
The same day I made the pretzels, I had asked Jake to endorse a check and cash it for me. I wanted this $20.00 cash to buy a gift card for Reece's teacher for Christmas. This year I've tried to be thoughtful about the gifts, and thankfully, I have in my possession a "My Favorite Things" list from both boy's teachers. This includes their favorite restaurants... Jake didn't cash it, he just deposited it. Fine. I'll deal with it. I just put it on his to do list for his day off, to go buy the gift card for me. He forgot. This is actually a small cafe, that is only open from 9 am to 2 pm, Tuesday through Friday. The hours that I am working. Neither one of us was going to be off, during those hours, by the time I needed it before Christmas break. Arg!! When I got off work, and Jake remembered right when I walked in the door, that he had forgotten, I panicked. The cafe had been closed for over an hour. I called, hoping there was a voicemail that I could leave a message on, or even have the luck that someone would actually be there. Someone answered. They were there for just a few more minutes, and they let me run up there quickly. Phew!
I get there within minutes, and she starts filling out a very "old school" certificate. I tried to pay with a card. Double arg!! I just realized that they only take cash or check! I knew this when I wanted that check cashed, and I was so frantic, I'd forgotten!! Thankfully, she allowed me to go get a check, seeings how I wasn't too far away. I rush back home, pretty annoyed, quickly wrote a check, and returned. Someone was in the cafe to put in an advance order. I knew exactly who it was the second I walked in.... It was none other than, Mrs. Olander!!!! What are the chances??? I just mentioned how awkward it was, and I couldn't hide the fact that I was in there for her. I laughed and told her she needed to act very surprised when Reece brings her a gift..... which is something that could've been avoided if a check, days earlier, would have been cashed.

True story. ;p

Riley's Thankful Thoughts...

Riley brought home a Thanksgiving feather the other day, and this is what he wrote on it....

I'm thankful for my whole family. Because they love me, give me yummy food, take care of me and have fun with me. They give me pop on Saturday. They give me a good Thanksgiving. They let me stay up all night long on Friday and Saturdays.

Oh, the simple things a kid can enjoy. FYI: Riley sometimes get pop on Saturdays, and he never makes it past 10 o'clock on the weekends, and he never touches his Thanksgiving food..... except for pumpkin pie. How silly.....

Reece's Two Cents

Reece just gave me two pennies.

He couldn't find anything more.

He really wants me to go buy more Christmas decorations.

Don't I feel like a scrooge.

And, don't I have a funny 5 year old?!?!

Of course, Reece wouldn't be happy until we won the "Clark Griswald" award.
